New Librarians Ahoy!

June 15, 2010

Congratulations to the ten Year 5 pupils who have been appointed as Hursthead Junior School Librarians. All these children submitted outstanding applications outlining why they would like to work as librarians and the skills they believe they can bring to the job. Miss Walker and Miss Larson enjoyed reading all your applications and are very excited to have appointed so many enthusiastic readers who are looking forward to the challenge of promoting and developing our school library.

Roll of drums please as we introduce Hursthead Junior School Librarians 2010 – 2011:

From Miss Dakin’s class: Jared, Natasha and Emily.

From Mr Foden’s class: Hannah, Francesca, Hashim, Jasmine and Aimee.

From Miss Milne’s class: Lauren and Lauren.

Well done librarians, let the reading begin!!!

New Librarians Needed!

June 3, 2010

Sadly the Year 6 librarians will have to leave their post when they finish at Hursthead Junior School in July. All ten librarians have worked so hard and continue to do so, but we will need some new librarians soon! Anyone in Year 5 can apply and application forms are available from Miss Walker. The successful applicants will start work almost straight away by reading the shortlist for The Stockport Schools’ Book Award 2009. Good Luck Year 5 and get those applications in!

Going For Gold

May 29, 2010

Congratualtions to Alex, Beth, Ellie, Emily and Alice who have now gained their Gold Librarian award.  All have been working hard on reviewing books and have shown tremendous talent. Alex’s review of Michael Morpurgo’s version of Beowulf made me want to rush out and buy it! Well done librarians. Keep reading and recommending books to your friends, families and teachers. Spread the word about books you have enjoyed. That is your most imprtant job!

Undefeated by the fiendish quiz!

March 19, 2010

Well done to Emily who has also completed the extremely tricky librarian’s quiz and is now a step nearer to gaining her gold award!

Library Experts

March 13, 2010

Well done to Year 6 librarians Beth and Ellie who have completed the fiendishly difficult librarian’s quiz and got every single question right! Their knowledge of libraries and books is fast expanding as they now know what the job of Children’s Laureate entails. They can reel off some of the authors who have held this prestigious post and they know what a pseudonym is. Well done girls!

Watch Out for Low Flying Dragons!

March 11, 2010

The library is being invaded by dragons!

Following Chris d’Lacey’s fabulous visit to Hursthead, we have gone dragon mad and displayed some of your amazing dragon masks in the library. Check out the display of Chris d’Lacey’s books too. Why not borrow one to read during Readathon?

The fiendishly difficult librarian’s quiz! Update

March 3, 2010

Alice is the first librarian to complete the quiz, and she got all the questions absolutely right! Well done Alice, you are well on your way to the Gold Award.

Well Done Year 6 Librarians!

February 9, 2010

Congratulations to our Year 6 Librarians who have now fulfilled all the targets to gain their Silver Award.

From now on it becomes tougher as the librarians have to complete The Fiendishly Difficult, Horribly Tricky, Librarian’s Quiz as one of the challenges towards gaining their Gold Award. With their library expertise and knowledge of books I am sure they will succeed. Watch this space!

Year 6 Librarians

December 2, 2009

Our Year 6 librarians are Alice, Ellie, Emily, Cait, Lucy, Alex, Hana, Luke, Beth and Charlotte.

All the librarians take their responsibilities seriously and have enjoyed selecting new books from the School Library Book Bus and have written some outstanding book reviews to encourage other readers to try something different.

All have undertaken a training programme and have recently received their Bronze Library Award. They are now well on their way to silver.

Thank you librarians and keep up the good work!

Welcome to Hursthead Junior School Library!

December 2, 2009

Welcome to our library and the wonderful world of books! We are very proud of our library which is looked after by two members of staff, ten enthusiastic Year 6 Librarians and our Parent Helpers.

You can borrow all the latest exciting fiction titles – everything from Horrid Henry to Darren Shan. You will also find plenty of informative non fiction books to support projects, homework, hobbies and interests.

We subscribe to First News, the weekly newspaper aimed especially at children, so our pupils are always up to date and aware of current news and world events.

We are indebted to our band of Parent Helpers who staff the library each afternoon to ensure that all the children can visit the library every week to browse and change their books.
